Welcome to XR West Sussex

You are invited to join us - Everyone, and every part of everyone, is welcome!

It is time to act. We use people power to demand urgent action from our Government.

Conventional approaches of voting, lobbying, petitions and protest have failed because powerful political and economic interests prevent change. Our strategy is therefore one of non-violent, disruptive civil disobedience – a rebellion.

Historical evidence shows that we only need the involvement of 3.5% of the population to force change – in the UK that’s about 2 million people.

Our meetings are the perfect first step to finding out more. Look for a Local Group near you and go to their social media for meeting dates or to send them an email. If you don't have a local group near you and are thinking of starting one, are interested in volunteering or would like to get in touch more generally, email [email protected]

Rebellion against East Sussex County Council

Rebellion against East Sussex County CouncilJuly 19, 2022, 9:00amCounty HallJoin two days of rebellion, protests, workshops and talks for residents of East Sussex to discuss and develop ideas for cutting carbon emissions.

We are in a climate and ecological emergency.

The UN says that if we do not halve carbon emissions by the end of this decade then humanity faces an “unlivable” future.

East Sussex County Council accepts the science; they agree on the urgency; they have an ‘action plan’ to reduce emissions to net-zero by 2050.
But this ‘action plan’ actually shows that they have no ideas, no funding and no intention of taking any actions that will cut emissions at the necessary speed or scale. Unbelievably, they are still investing pension money in fossil fuel companies.

The council's own climate plan shows that even if they do EVERYTHING they say they will, they will be nowhere near net zero by 2050.

The limits of the Council’s ambitions are to change the bulbs in street lights, upgrade the heating systems in some council buildings, and then hope that the government will step in.

But the UK government is criminally complicit in continuing our reliance on oil and gas. Our Council must stop passing the buck; stop the excuses and the wishful thinking; and step up.

- Divest pensions from Fossil Fuels - Invest in our future
- The Council must cut their own emissions but also show leadership to drive cuts in local transport, energy, buildings and food.
- Listen to the People

The Council must involve and inspire all of us in this mammoth challenge.
