Defend Our Juries - The People vs The Corporate State
”We will fight for that right to free protest. We will fight for democracy in the UK.” – Chris Packham.
• Defend Our Juries and the Free Political Prisoners campaign are calling on concerned groups and individuals to join us at the Royal Courts of Justice on January 29th & 30th at the mass-appeal of 16 political prisoners.
• This is a defining moment for exposing corruption in UK lawmaking. Every organisation, campaign group and individual who supports this democratic right is affected by the outcome of this appeal, whatever their cause. This is The People vs The Corporate State.
• The 16 received a combined 41 years in prison for peaceful protest in the UK, sparking international outrage and criticism from the United Nations over breaches of human rights. A 17th individual, Xavier Gonzales-Trimmer would have also been an appellant. He remains with us as a crucial part of the story.
• THE PLAN – There will be a vigil and rally from 9am each day. Supporting groups will be at the courts with solidarity events, speeches, and entertainment. On Jan 30th at midday, Defend Our Juries will hold a peaceful Exhibition Action on the road for 90minutes. Full details of this action can be found in the action briefing doc.

Separate instructions have been sent to those who have registered to speak at Issue Specific Hearing 6 (ISH6) on Tuesday 30 April 2024.
A government planning inspectorate is sitting near Gatwick for six months, examining business plans to expand capacity at Gatwick airport.
These plans will:-
MAKE GATWICK AS BIG AS HEATHROW IS NOW
Over 100,000 NEW FLIGHTS
80 MILLION MORE PASSENGERS
Well over 1 MILLION TONNES OF EXTRA CO2 EACH YEAR
Fossil fuel combustion should already be being phased out, instead emissions are soaring.
The plans are disastrous and against every expert recommendation to avoid passing climate change tipping points, which will cause irreversible harm.
Extinction Rebellion demand an END TO THE ERA OF AIRPORT EXPANSION and the beginning of living within the finite limits of our only living planet.
JOIN US in our campaign to question these plans and influence the outcome.
10 FACTS ABOUT GATWICK EXPANSION PLANS
As big as Heathrow: Gatwick plans to increase passenger numbers to 80 million a year.
Increasing Flights to 100,000 per year in a Climate Emergency.
Our own Govt’s Climate Change Committee says there should be no more airport expansion until the aviation industry starts to cut its CO2 emissions.
Significant Carbon emissions: Gatwick plans for the airport to emit over 5% of the total UK budget by 2038.
We are now set to breach the 1.5 degree threshold by 2030. This will lead to further extreme weather events, food shortages and irreversible climate breakdown, with the poorest suffering the most.
At a crucial time when we must be reducing our carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, increasing flights is simply wrong.
Planned climate impact exceeds what is permitted by the Governemnt’s own “Jet Zero” policy.
Gatwick is the only UK airport without a cap on passengers or flight numbers.
Sustainable aviation fuel is unachievable even at the rates we currently fly. Competition for arable land causes biodiversity loss, rising food prices and water shortages, while biofuel use can result in even more emissions than fossil fuel.
Biofuel use can result in even more emissions than fossil fuel and is likely to replace only at tiny percentage of fossil fuel use in the future.
